Sherlock Holmes is a classic detective, perhaps even the archetypal detective. While the modern BBC Sherlock Holmes production is great fun to watch–excellent production value, fast paced and modern–there’s something wonderful about watching old-school Sherlock Holmes. He’s observant and clever, and it almost feels like it’s possible to keep up with him. Plus I just find black and white movies so relaxing.
