If I had to name the number one noir film actress of all time, I’d say Barbara Stanwyck. Lauren Bacall is amazing, but Barbara Stanwyck knows how to sell being a tough girl in a low place.
This is one of her later pictures, but it’s a good one. Also starring George Sanders in an uncharacteristically dark role, it’s the story of a murder with no mystery–we know exactly who the killer is. The tension comes from wondering whether or not he’s going to get caught. An edgy film for the 1950s, the film has turns that I would not have predicted. Enjoy!
OH! I had forgotten about this movie too! Imma gonna watch it this weekend. Thanks!
Glad to remind you! The narrative structure of this film is really interesting.
