Back before they put vampires on TV, they were scary. Like in this 1980s horror noir classic The Hunger. They were both compelling and disgusting. Their immortality was criminal–they had to take lives to maintain it. Much as I love shows like Angel, TV vampires don’t seem like monsters, they seem like folks who beat the system, no more tortured than a software engineer who doesn’t get to marry the girl of his dreams. (Of course, that would suck. I’m just saying they seem human. Not like these creatures.)
